چکیده : | Allenby in Egypt by Field-Marshall Viscount Wavell is the second volume to Allenby: A Study in Greatness about Field-Marshall Viscount Allenby, a man criticized by many but clearly admired by Wavell. After recounting Allenby’s military career in the first volume, most notably his victory against the Ottomans in 1918, Allenby in Egypt covers the period Allenby served in the post of High Commissioner for Egypt and the Sudan between 1919 and 1925 during which Egypt received “independence” from Great Britain. Real independence did not manifest until some 32 years later; but according to Wavell’s account, Allenby and the British crown served Egyptian interests faithfully in a way Egyptians themselves apparently could not.
