This abridgment has been prepared, reducing the originals to about one-third of their length.This economy of material has been achieved only by the careful rearrangement of entries and the elimination of close synonyms, such geographical and scientific terms as should be easily recognized able, and those Arabic and Persian forms now commonly replaced by Turkish ones
