This dictionary was completed in 1946. During the next five years my collaborator and I were occupied in compiling our English-Turkish dictionary. In the course of this we naturally came across a large number of words and phrases which we had overlooked or which had come into more general use, and which obviously should be included in any new edition of the Turkish-English dictionary
This dictionary is the companion volume to our Turkish-English Dictionary For every English-speaking person wishing to learn Turkish there are probably Turks wishing to learn English and, therefore, this dictionary has been compiled mainly with a view to the needs of Turkish students. It will.however, be of the greatest use to English-speaking students provided that it is used intelligently, that is to say in conjunction with the Turkish-English dictionary
This is the Oxford Turkish-English Dictionary of 1959. This abridgment has been prepared, reducing the originals to about one-third of their length.This economy of material has been achieved only by the careful rearrangement of entries and the elimination of close synonyms, such geographical and scientific terms as should be easily recognized able, and those Arabic and Persian forms now commonly replaced by Turkish ones
